The 14th annual Indian Machine Tool Exhibition opened in Bangalore January 22-28, and the Machine Tools BG took advantage of this opportunity to show why Doosan Infracore is a top-tier machine tool maker with a diverse lineup to suit any budget and need. High-end models such as the PUMA MX2500LST (multifunction machining and turning center), PUMA TT2000SY (multi-axis turning center), and VMD D600/5AX (5-axis machining center) were on display at the Doosan booth. Meanwhile, three Indian dealers showed the economically-priced DNM and Lynx series.
The BG hosted a dinner party for more than 50 people from the local dealerships on the evening of January 23. The participants were briefed on the latest technologies and shown case studies covering the delivery of system applications. The presentations were designed to improve their marketing capabilities and to instill greater pride in being part of the Doosan team.
India is categorized as an "emerging" machine tools market, but the recent downturn in the global economy has prompted many Indian companies to delay new facilities investments. Therefore, most of the companies that deal in machine tools are currently in difficulty.
For its part, the Machine Tools BG is busy preparing for when the economy recovers. The Technical Center, which was established in India last year, has been helping to raise customer satisfaction by providing better customer services and technical support. Further efforts will also be made to raise competitiveness by bolstering dealers' sales capabilities.
The IMTEX is organized by the Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers' Association. This year, more than 1,200 companies from twenty-four nations took part. Products on display included metal-cutting machine tools, cutting tools, tooling systems, machine tool accessories and metrology and CAD/CAM systems.

- The Machine Tools BG aims to produce 22,000 units a year and achieve W2.2 trillion in annual sales by 2012.
After one year of construction, Doosan Infracore has completed the largest development center in Korea’s machine tools industry to date. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at Changwon Factory 1 on November 28 with more than 400 people attending, including Doosan Infracore Chairman Park Yong-sung and Vice Chairman Choe Sung-chul.
The five-story building with single basement has a total floor space of 6,870㎡. The state-of-the-art design provides the optimal research environment and projects an environment-friendly image. The structure is also equipped with a three-tier security system to prevent any leaks of technical data.
The center will play a key role in machine tool research, using a sophisticated numerical control system to support the development of futuristic machine tools in step with industry trends. This includes the integration of technologies to create machine tools capable of multitasking, high accuracy and high speed.
Machine Tools BG officials announced their mid-/long-term plans during the dedication ceremony. They expect annual production to reach 22,000 units by 2012, generating sales of W2.2 trillion.
To this end, the BG will elevate global competitiveness by establishing a cooperative network with relevant institutions at home and abroad. The R&D base will also be bolstered across the board, to include product design, basic technology, customer-oriented applied technology and system optimization. The resulting gains in cost competitiveness will enable Doosan Infracore to make further inroads into a global market that is increasingly focused on high-efficiency machine tools.
The Machine Tools BG will also develop the core technologies needed to expand it’s lineup of value-added models. Research efforts will focus on technologies related to thermal displacement compensation and feed drive system optimization. These are essential for developing value-added models that are superior in terms of operational speed, precision, productivity and reliability.Doosan Infracore will thus continue to increase it’s share of the high-end market by being first to introduce the latest high-speed machining centers, 5-axis machining centers, multi-tasking turning centers, and die & mold machining centers.
The lineup will also be steadily diversified to include the double-column machining centers, Swiss turn, electric discharge machines, and ultra-precision machining centers that can satisfy demand in such disparate industries as aviation, defense, oil & gas exploration, power generation and medicine. These new growth engines will enable Doosan Infracore to strengthen it’s hold on the global market.
In his speech at the ceremony, Doosan Infracore Vice President & Machine Tool BG Chief Kim Woong-bum said:Only those making continued R&D investment can overcome the difficulties caused by the current economic downturn and be first to secure market share after recovery. This new Machine ToolsDevelopment Center will allow us to achieve our mid- and long-term business goals. It will also be on the cutting edge of the global machine tool industry.
