The 14th annual Indian Machine Tool Exhibition opened in Bangalore January 22-28, and the Machine Tools BG took advantage of this opportunity to show why Doosan Infracore is a top-tier machine tool maker with a diverse lineup to suit any budget and need. High-end models such as the PUMA MX2500LST (multifunction machining and turning center), PUMA TT2000SY (multi-axis turning center), and VMD D600/5AX (5-axis machining center) were on display at the Doosan booth. Meanwhile, three Indian dealers showed the economically-priced DNM and Lynx series.
The BG hosted a dinner party for more than 50 people from the local dealerships on the evening of January 23. The participants were briefed on the latest technologies and shown case studies covering the delivery of system applications. The presentations were designed to improve their marketing capabilities and to instill greater pride in being part of the Doosan team.
India is categorized as an "emerging" machine tools market, but the recent downturn in the global economy has prompted many Indian companies to delay new facilities investments. Therefore, most of the companies that deal in machine tools are currently in difficulty.
For its part, the Machine Tools BG is busy preparing for when the economy recovers. The Technical Center, which was established in India last year, has been helping to raise customer satisfaction by providing better customer services and technical support. Further efforts will also be made to raise competitiveness by bolstering dealers' sales capabilities.
The IMTEX is organized by the Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers' Association. This year, more than 1,200 companies from twenty-four nations took part. Products on display included metal-cutting machine tools, cutting tools, tooling systems, machine tool accessories and metrology and CAD/CAM systems.

Doosan Infracore Germany, a machine tools subsidiary, hosted an open house event and dealer conference Nov. 27-29. The open house featured an exhibition of 22 high-end models, including those most popular in the European market-the MX multi-tasking turning center and TT multi-axis turning center series as well as various horizontal machining center models. The visitors profusely praised the latest MX series models and the DNM series, which was recently introduced to expand Doosan Infracore’s share of the vertical machining center segment. Also on display were tooling, fixtures and software from suppliers, helping to provide a synergy effect.
The dealer conference convened on Nov. 28 with twenty-five people from fifteen dealerships taking part. The participants reviewed this year’s overall performance, analyzed the results for each dealership and were briefed on new models. They also discussed the current market situation and business strategies for 2009.
Everyone agreed that reaching next year’s sales targets and overcoming the current downturn will require close cooperation among the local dealerships, DIG and Korea Head Office as well as aggressive product promotion in the coming months.
Doosan Infracore Germany experienced year-on-year sales growth of 43 percent in 2006 and 64 percent in 2007. This year, total sales are estimated to be 118 million, about the same as in 2007, despite the plummeting market activity in the second half.
