CIMES 2008

The Machine Tools BG attended China International Machine Tool Exhibition
2008, organized by China National Machine Tool Corp. in Beijing Oct. 9-13. The
BG displayed thirteen different machines at the show, ranging from lowpriced
models to the high-end multi-tasking machining & turning centers and
high-speed machining centers. The lineup included seven different turning
centers, five machining centers and one wire-cut electric discharge machine,
underscoring Doosan Infracore s stature as a world-class machine tool maker in
step with the rapid advancement of Chinese industry.
High-end machine tools are now in strong demand in China, prompting Doosan
Infracore to secure a competitive edge in this segment and elevate the brand
image. To this end, the company ensured its booth at CIMES was the same size as
those of the other leaders Mazak and Haas. The booth was neatly decorated in the
Doosan Blue and smartly laid out to attract the attention of showgoers.
Doosan Infracore is designing China-specific machine tool models and
employing localized marketing strategies to make inroads into this fastgrowing
market. Machine tool sales in China are expected to grow thirty percent year on
year to reach US$170 million this year. The goal is to achieve US$300 million
in Chinese machine tool sales by 2012 and make the local machine tool
manufacturing subsidiary (Doosan Infracore Machine Tools Yantai) a key part of
the global network.
The first CIMES opened in 1992, making this the ninth time the biennial show
has been held. All the major players in machine tools, attachments, factory
automation and control technology take part. This year drew some 1,500 corporate
participants and more than 200,000 visitors.
